Big Wind Day

April seems to be taking a page out of March’s book beginning as windy as the previous month.

Apparently, life's answers are blowing in the wind! (Sorry, it was too easy to go there!)

From what I’ve been reading she has done this in the past, earning her another holiday on the 12th called the National Big Wind Day.  Does this impress you?  Didn’t think so … that is unless this falls somewhere in your line of work or course study.

The yearly event is actually a reminder of when the Mount Washington Observatory recorded the highest earthly natural wind gust of 231 miles an hour back in 1934.

My point is that for many, many years (even before it was recorded), the wind has been making a big impression in our lives and still does.  Truth told we’d be nothing without it.

It Happened – again!

In part one entitled “Wherever the Wind Blows”, I told you about the mysterious daffodils that showed up along the fence of our back yard.  Well, it happened again – almost.

Earlier in the week I raked the yard collecting two large piles of branches and twigs from storms earlier in the month.  The yard was prepared for my husband to mow on Thursday.

As he was making a mowing path around the side of the house, he noticed a tall leafy plant sticking out of the middle of the yard.  It was a single tulip!  I’m starting to get a feel of how the Garden of Eden must have been with flowers popping up all over the place.  Gotta love it!

Still wondering how this particular plant got there, it caused me to take notice of the power of God in the elements.  Perhaps there’s a pattern to all this moving about of plants, animals and even people?  Why is it that we don’t recognize “something’s happening” by God until He puts it directly before our eyes?

Wind Power

Many of us have seen the power of wind and what it can do.  Windmills, wind energy such as in turbines are good examples of the magnitude of wind as a resource.

However, did you know that the Bible mentions “wind” almost 2,400 times using various meanings for the term?  For Him to bring it to our attention so many times it must be pretty important.

There is a specific Bible definition for wind power, which is the Holy Spirit Who puts all things in motion.  He literally is the “wind beneath the wings” of everything if you know what I mean.

From the very beginning Yahweh (the Heavenly Father, His Son Jesus) used His pneuma (Greek word for Spirit) when creating the world.  We learn more about this “Wind” power in scripture when God breathed life in man from the books of Genesis and Job.

“And the earth was waste and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep: and the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
(Genesis 1:2 ASV)

The same verse in the CEB translation reads like this:

“The earth was without shape or form, it was dark over the deep sea,
and God’s wind swept over the waters. “

“And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground,
and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became
a living being.” (Genesis 2:7 NKJV)

The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the
Almighty has given me life.” (Job 33:4 NKJV)

Using the wind as a comparison, the Spirit of God and mankind is invisible.  No one can see how it works or know where it will move.  However, we can see the effect of what the Spirit of God does in branches bending when wind is present or in the very movement of our own bodies.

On the lighter side, if someone says you’re full of hot air you can assure them that’s exactly right!  In reality, what we are witnessing (and living) is the fruit of the Spirit, which is the result of the action done by the power of the wind (the Holy Spirit).

Wherever the Wind Blows, God is Moving

There is another type of wind that Jesus talked about in a conversation with His disciples right before He was crucified on the cross.  How timely too as this weekend is Palm Sunday!

In John 20:22 Jesus described what people who believed in Him (as the true Messiah) would receive from the Heavenly Father as empowerment to carry out the Great Commission message of salvation after He was resurrected.

With the Disciples gathered around Jesus, the Lord demonstrated what would happen on the day of Pentecost (when the Holy Spirit would descend from Heaven to come live inside Christ believers) by breathing on them as in a burst of wind.  His illustration was to show how the Holy Spirit would fall on them with power.

“And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, Receive the Holy Spirit.” (John 20:22 NKJV)

When the time came that’s exactly what happened because they believed and received what Jesus said about the "where and how" God would be moving.  Isn’t it interesting that the Holy Spirit didn’t move quietly, but instead came in like a rushing wind?

What happens when a mighty gust of wind blows through something?  You got it – things move because nothing can stand against its force.  The power behind the wind is greater than the object in its path.

That force of Holy Spirit power is a “favor” gift from God for believing in His Son Jesus as the One and only Savior.  It’s not available to anyone else even if they claim to believe in God the Father.  Jesus said this to His followers:

"Let not your heart be troubled.
You believe God, believe also in Me."  (John 14:1 DRA)

Not only did the Spirit of God fill the people on the Day of Pentecost stated in Acts chapter 2, it also filled the house demonstrating that God was moving in that place and at that specified time.  The sound was so loud that it was heard in the street causing people to gather wondering what was happening.

No doubt after their “little talk with Jesus” the Disciples made sure they were where He told them to be at a specific date in time. It was on that day they received the favor of His power in their lives for carrying out the vision God gave each of them.

The power of the Holy Spirit causes a situation to fulfill the purpose God intended.  Using the metaphor of how the wind blows, the Holy Spirit appears suddenly and stirs the atmosphere changing everything.  I am absolutely convinced that when the wind blows, God is moving something around for His purpose and plan!

Breeze of Hope

There probably wasn’t a “big plan” in those daffodils showing up near the back alley of our house or the stray tulip; who knows, maybe it was just for this article.  The truth is God never ceases to show up in places I didn’t expect just to remind me that He has already been there.

When the Lord chooses to shower favor it’s because of love and He may demonstrate it in a multitude of ways, I’m just using those plants as an example of the unexplained.  I don’t know why God allowed those little buds of sunshine to bloom around our property, but I’m glad He did.

How may times have you sensed something has changed, but you couldn’t put your finger on it?  Not everything can be chalked up to “science” or “nature’s way” can it?

Each year we are blessed to witness the renewal of Spring Favor, but have we become like the world who denies the power of the Holy Spirit?  Do we need to revisit Genesis 1 on a regular basis so that we remember the original Big Wind Day that caused things to first move?

God’s Spirit gives us life to enjoy the creation that was prepared for mankind, but His power of favor gives believer’s supernatural gifts and abilities enabling them to fulfill The Great Commission in leading souls to Christ.  It is this supernatural breeze of hope that fills us with joy knowing that the promise of salvation is not just for now, but for eternity!

“This is what the Lord says:
I will answer your prayers because I have set a time (of favor) when I will help by coming to save you. I have chosen you to take my promise (salvation breeze) of hope to other nations.” (Isaiah 49:8a)

This Week’s Challenge:
Watching the Wind

When the wind is blowing, we can see what it’s doing through movement.  If the trees sway, leaves rustle or clouds disperse it is evidence that wind is present and about to do something without our help.

Our challenge this week will cause us to be mindful of three things: our physical surroundings, what’s happening in the community, and personal life changes.

First, over the coming weeks take a closer look at the things that are blooming around you besides beautiful flowers, bushes or trees.  What is happening that you had no part of in planting – literally!

Second, notice what the Holy Spirit is “blowing” across your life path so that you will recognize the breeze of hope is all around you.  What is He doing in the lives of other believers in carrying out their vision?  Does it bring clarity to your own calling?

Third, expect God’s Mighty Wind to fall on you with blessings.  Remember, like the Disciples, you have to listen for the voice of the Lord AND be in position at the time of delivery!

God has promised that those who listen, seek, wait and watch for His Spirit to move will receive blessings and obtain favor from Him.  Be on the lookout for a “Big Wind Day” to blow past your dwelling soon!  It will be impressive and surely something to record!

“Blessed is the man who listens to me, watching daily at my gates,
Waiting at the posts of my doors. For whoever finds me finds life,
And obtains favor from the Lord.” (Proverbs 8:34-35 NKJV)

“Let not mercy and truth forsake you; bind them around your neck.
Write them on the tablet of your heart, and so find favor and (good understanding) high esteem in the sight of God and man.”
(Proverbs 3:3-4 NKJV)

Holy Spirit I surrender, take me where You want to go.
Plant me by Your Living Water, plant me deep so I can grow.

Sharing Holy Week

If you are a believer in the Work of the Cross, you have probably learned there are many ways to “preach” the redemption gospel Biblical teaching and even writing are among the most common ways to tell the message of the cross, but there are tons more!

Other methods of sharing Holy Week may be in the form of handing out gift cards, Bibles, gospel tracts and religious literature.  Keeping these items in my car or purse helps me to be ready when God places an open door circumstance before my eyes.

Selling products or promoting something specific like wearing shirts and hats that have a scripture reference speak volumes when trying to convey a passion.  These are always fun for me and I've had my share of lively conversations with strangers over the apparel I've often sported for a cause!

Decorating your home inside and out with a cross or sign in lights about Easter lets those who pass by know you believe Jesus is the Son of God without ever opening your mouth.  At our last home my husband built a giant 12 foot cross and positioned it at the front of our property.  During Holy Week it was draped with a purple cloth and anyone who drove down the surrounding streets saw our faith in action.   Restrictions in our current residence do not permit us to have such a large display, however, we still have a cross in lights mounted to the house.

Watching programs and movies about Jesus such as The Passion or The Jesus Film sometimes help get a message across that can often be quite difficult, especially if you don't have all the answers to those hard questions about Christianity people frequently ask.  We've shown several films in our home, and when they were over it lead to so many heartfelt conversatons including the prayer of salvation.  If this is something you'd like to do, be sure to serve some great snacks and don't forget the good popcorn!

All of these ways to get the message out about God's unmerited favor for forgiveness of sins are terrific and are powerful tools to be used in the correct setting.  However, did you know that individual testimonies through story telling are the most effective?  It's true.

You don't have to be a preacher or bible teacher to tell someone about Jesus Christ.  Simply sharing a few stories on how you learned about God can inspire people and cause them to seek out the person you call Lord.

This week believer's in Christ have a wonderful opportunity to share what it means to be "saved" by telling the events that happened in what we refer to as "Holy Week or Passion Week".  Follow the footsteps of Jesus on His journey to the cross with these helpful passages from the Bible.  I've listed the daily events and scriptures on the Holy Week Timeline of Events.  View here.

"Go into all the world and preach the good news gospel to everyone. Anyone who believes in Me (Jesus) and is baptized will be saved, but those who refuse to believe will be condemned to hell." (from Matthew 28:16-20 and Mark 16:14-19 emphasis mine)

For those of you who haven’t come to accept Jesus, you can change that right now.  God’s gift of salvation favor (grace) is free, all you have to do is receive it by faith.

“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son,
that whoever believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.”
(John 3:16)

In John 11:25-26 of the Bible, Jesus spoke these words to a woman named Martha, "I Am the Resurrection and the life,  He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.  And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die.  Do you believe this?"

As a Christ follower and in obedience to the Great Commission command of my Savior, I'd pose this same question to you dear reader.  Today if you put your trust in Christ; He promises to forgive and forget the past that you desperately want to leave behind.  You can do it by saying this prayer sentence by sentence.

Remember, when God gives you the opportunity to share the message of the cross in witnessing (and He will) always …

Pray with others.
Sow favor and blessings.
Reap favor and blessings.

Until next time, “favor sharing the message behind Holy Week!

“I favored you while on the cross.”

Undercover Angel

"Angel Wings" by Laverne Ross
“God must have needed another angel” is a common saying when someone leaves this world.

Even though all the angels were created before the foundations of the earth, somehow it brings people comfort thinking their loved one is in the company of this heavenly host.

There is a fascination humans have when it comes to the heavenly beings called angels. What is it that we are in awe of really? Is it the way we portray them in having super power or is it their beauty we admire?
Maybe being compared to an angel isn’t anything to sneeze at.  They usually don’t get a bad rap when things go wrong.  How often have you said your angels let you down? That charge usually goes to God.
When I think about angels I picture large male forms that are ready to come to my rescue, so that I don’t dash my feet against a rock. (Psalm 91:12)
I have spouted off a few times, blaming my angels for not being on the job when I needed them.  If I was honest about my dilemma I would have realized it was something I may have done or said that tied my angels "hands".

Job Opening ...
What is it that we are to expect from an angel?  What is their job?
“Are they (angels) not all ministering spirits sent forth to minister for those (believers) who will inherit salvation (eternal life)? (Hebrews 1:14 NKJV)
An angel’s job is to minister to the children of God when they speak the Word of God. In other words, they are to serve others on behalf of the Heavenly Father.
Contrary to what we may think, they cannot act on their own behalf.  If they do, well we know what happened to satan and his angels when they went out on their own against God.  He kicked them out of Heaven.
Angels are always active for God, but not always for us. Let me explain that statement. The only time an angel can act on our behalf is when they hear us speak what God has spoken. In other words, they act when we quote scripture because it isn’t our words, but God’s that is giving the orders.  That’s why it’s so important to sing Psalms (or other passages) and memorize the Bible.  In doing that we are keeping our angels busy.
http://the-tooth-fairy.wikia.com/wiki/Tracy_Blogs
Caseworker Tracy: "Refreshing"
I can picture it in Heaven … thousands of angels hanging out, sipping something to drink just waiting for an assignment.
If you have seen the film Tooth Fairy there is a scene something like that to give you an idea.  When the message comes in, they dash out the door ready to go to work.
See angels really do have a purpose that is in line with God’s plan and that’s where our lesson lies today.  No, it’s not about angels, but similar to the idea that an angel’s work is undercover in the fact that they are not to take any glory for it.
They are to minister to us according to what they have been instructed by the Lord.
As children of God, we too have an assignment in ministering to one another.  When we do our homework as ambassadors of Heaven (not angels), the Lord remembers it and in turn blesses us with His favor to keep doing His work.
“For God is not unjust to forget your work and labor of love which you have shown toward His name, in that you have ministered to the saints (believers), and do (continue to) minister. (Hebrews 6:10 NKJV)
Gift Package Received
In order for us to carry out our assignments we are given gifts from God at the time of salvation, and part of that gift is having the Holy Spirit come dwell inside our spirit.
http://shoutitforlife.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/Gifts-from-God.jpg
The Holy Spirit doesn’t reside in an angel, because they are not part of God as mankind is, nor are they made in the image of God (see Genesis 1:26). They were created to serve, while we were created to be part of God’s family.  That’s why angels are confused about humans and are in awe of us (Psalm 8:2-6).  Worshipping angels should never be done by anyone.
This is sort of how we get things mixed up when it comes to admiring angels. Keeping in mind that everything created by God has a purpose, I’m going to try and make this crystal clear metaphorically.
Angels are like concrete blocks compared to humans who are gemstones.  Anyone in their right mind would never want to be a block when they could be a diamond, so why worship a block?  We are God’s precious jewels and nothing compares to what He has designed when it comes to man. (Zechariah 9:16 & Malachi 3:17 NKJV)
Let us be mindful of the reason there are angels, once again … to serve.  We were not created to serve, but do serve out of our love for our Creator, Maker and Heavenly Father.
Another thing to bear in mind is that angels aren’t given gifts.  They only do what the Word of God says literally, because they can only harken to His Words. They have to wait for orders. So when you quote Psalm 91, for instance, they are put to flight.
When we speak God’s Words the Holy Spirit releases our gifts with power or ability to do what is in the plan of God for our journey.  There is no waiting for God to give us an order when it comes to our ambassadorship, because we received those when we became Christians and the assignment hasn’t changed.
“As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace (favor) of God.  If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God. If anyone ministers, let him do it as with the ability which God supplies (through your gifts and blessings), that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen. (1 Peter 4:10-11 NKJV)
Our gift(s) are to be used to minister to Saints (believers in Christ Jesus) and lead others to Him through our actions. We are to be good caregivers of the favor (grace) we have received.  How do we do that?  Follow God’s plan.
When we speak as representatives of Heaven our words are to be God’s (oracles).  Our words won’t do anything without His Words being tied to them.  However, when our actions line up with God’s plan for our journey, they become blessed or favored so the plan can be fulfilled.  God blesses us with favor, which is the ability to do something good for others that He may be glorified.
Going Undercover Openly

Today August 22nd, 2014 is "Be an Angel Day".  In the eyes of the world, angels always go about doing wonderful things for people without them realizing it is from them.
In a sense we’re going to be “angel-like” in our task this week, but we all know that we’re really carrying out our assignment of the Great Commission …
"And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, All authority has been given to Me in Heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen. (Matthew 28:19-20 NKJV)

... and the Royal Law.
“If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you do well  ... (James 2:8 NKJV)

This Week’s Challenge:
Serving with Angels

We are blessed to be a blessing.

Our favor comes so we can pour it out on others

As the angels go about doing the work of the Lord, so should we on a daily basis.  To help assist us in our task rather than rewrite an article I wrote, here is the link for "Be an Angel Day", and you can select which items you are going to complete for this challenge.  How’s that for a change?
This is the first challenge that we’ve done that will incorporate everyone in the family. Each person will select their own projects. There are over 50 blessings you can participate in, but you only need to select three. You can do more if you like. Make sure you read the introduction so you understand the reason for this challenge.
Blessings may come in many forms and no one but God knows what they will be.  Sometimes they are birthed through trials, hardship or disappointments. One thing we know … God is always willing for it to turn into a blessing.  It may even come through you. If it does, you can be sure there was an angel involved somehow.
Let us, along with the angels, serve the Lord with gladness. (Psalm 100:2 NKJV)
We don’t have to be angels to do “angelic” kind of work. This week be the blessing someone didn’t expect; let the angels assist you undercover as you pour out favor on others. To God be all the glory.

Until next time, favor others with giving blessing.
